Kelp Co-Work

– Lisbon, Portugal

I learnt a lot of things opening the first co-work in Ericeira (see previous project Salt Studio). It was always our plan to move here and start another co-work because of our experience in creating these nurturing spaces and the beautiful communities that form around them. Not only do we need a home for Ardour but we love sharing these co-work environments with the lovely people who work in them. There is such diversity and creativity, and people come from all over the world with such interesting backgrounds and it is always a pleasure to share with them.

After my departure from Salt, it took me a while to gather my thoughts and confidence again – but I always knew I wanted to do another co-work space and felt that the town of Ericeira had space and potential to be able to support another one. Being so close to the capital city of Lisbon also helps and with recent events in the world, people are looking to base themselves further outside of cities in order to re-connect to the feeling of space.

Amy and I got the keys for our new space in August 2020 and with a huge amount of support from friends and family we opened Kelp in October 2020. Developing the brand identity, the interior and working on the build out. The digital part of the project was managed by an incredible local developer who designed and developed us a bespoke website with the ability to easily manage bookings.

The space has blossomed since then with a packed schedule of events, talks and happenings that have further helped build the community. Even through the winter the community of remote workers has continued to grow, and through these challenging times people have managed to connect in a space that nurtures the soul and encourages creativity and collaboration.

The town of Ericeira is a hub of ex-pats, creatives, and ocean lovers. We have dedicated storage for surfboards and regularly go out and surf as a Kelp crew.

As the space grows we continue to improve as people make suggestions and have recently increased the capacity of our flexible booking areas and focused on natural movement in the workplace, making a standing desk and introducing balance balls as opposed to static seats. We feel peoples wellbeing is reflected in the workplace.

We are in the process of developing some fantastic partnerships with local businesses and independent venues. It is a beautiful venue for Ardour to have a new home.

Come and visit us, we have a beautiful outside terrace and we are a 30 second walk from one of the best surf spots and beaches in town – not to mention the best Bakery, Paozinho!
